Mastering professional interactions
One third of patients litigating are urged to do so by other doctors
There is a risk to patients and doctors when patient care passes between doctors – referrals and handovers – or when two doctors disagree over the best care for a patient.
Evidence shows that risk from these types of professional interactions is increasing. It is the basis of many complaints, claims and disciplinary actions against doctors.
The Mastering Professional Interactions workshop is designed to help you identify the risk factors related to professional interactions. It provides proven techniques and models to reduce risk and improve patient outcomes.
By attending this workshop you will:
- increase your understanding of the nature of high-risk professional interactions
- learn how to deal with disagreements between doctors over patient care
- develop more effective colleague interactions
- learn specific strategies to improve formal referral and clinical handover
- have the opportunity to reflect on personal attitudes and behaviours.
Mastering Professional Interactions is the third in the Mastering series of workshops, and he highly recommend that participants attend the Mastering Your Risk workshop first.
Target audience
Foundation doctors, doctors in training, non-consultant hospital doctors, consultants and general practitioners.
