HA on recruitment drive to tackle shortage
23 Sep 2011
The Hospital Authority (HA) has begun a campaign to reduce the shortage of specialty-specific doctors in public hospitals.
The recruitment drive aims to enlist more local doctors, both full-time and part-time, in the medicine, anaesthesia, and accident and emergency departments.
The HA has received more than 160 applications, and has deemed 29 suitable for further processing. A further 30 applications require further assessment.
The applications were scrutinised by various specialty panels, including the Chairmen and Training Subcommittee Chairmen of the Central Co-ordinating Committees of the respective specialties in Medicine, Anaesthesia and Accident & Emergency.
The HA will submit the first batch of applications to the Medical Council of Hong Kong for approval by the end of the year.
